Bangalore: Google can be considered as the ruler of internet world and it is a matter of pride to notice the contribution of Indians in its amazing success. India always stands on the top when it comes to innovations in the field of technology and graduates from IIT are looked upon with great hope by prominent firms all over the world, which is reflected in their hiring pattern. Let us have a look at some of the top Indians working in Google-


Nikesh Arora


Nikesh is the Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer of Google, who is the second most paid employee of the firm. Recently, he was in news for taking an amount of $4.7 million (‘Cancelled Awards’ payment), plus a bonus of $3.3 million, instead of the stock.


Arora, who is with Google for the past many years, has been successful in building the European operations of the company into a significant one. He was appointed to the post of global ad sales boss in the year 2009.


Prior to joining Google, Arora served as the chief marketing officer and a member of the management board at T-Mobile. He has also worked for Deutsche Telekom, Putnam Investments, and Fidelity Investments.





Sundar Pichai


Pichai is an Indian-American computer engineer, who currently serves the post of Senior Vice President of Google chrome. He is the person who gave the first demonstration of Google Chrome OS in the year 2009.


Pichai directs the innovation team which concentrates fully on Google's search products, which includes Google Toolbar, Chrome, Desktop Search, Gadgets, Google Pack, Google Gears, Firefox extensions and Mac products.


Many prominent firms including Twitter have tried to make Pichai a part of their company, but Google rewarded him with an amount of $50 million to stop him from quitting. He has earlier worked for 'Mc Kinsey & Company' and 'Applied Materials' before joining Google in 2004


He completed his engineering from IIT Kharagpur and holds an MS and MBA from Stanford University and Wharton school respectively.





Vivek Gundotra


Vivek is the Vice-President of Social Business for Google, who is known as the man behind Google +. Prior to his joining Google in the year 2007, Vivek was a general manager at Microsoft and has an experience of 15 years there.


Vivek led Google's efforts at social media, including Buzz and according to his profile in Google+, ‘’Fell in love with the power of software at age 11, and am still in love."


His valuable contributions to Microsoft made him one among the top 100 innovators in the world according to the MIT Technology Review TR100.




Amit Singhal


Singhal is a top ranking software engineer in Google who was honoured with the title ‘Google Fellow’ (a title meant for most talented engineers) for his work on Google’s Algorithm.


Singhal joined Google in the year 2000 after leaving his post as a researcher at AT&T Labs (the former Bell Labs).He leads the core ranking team of Google and works to better up the accuracy, speed, and thoroughness of Google search.


He was named in the list of smartest people in tech by Fortune and India Abroad recognized him as one of 50 most influential Indian Americans.


Singhal received B.Tech in computer science from IIT Roorke and an M.S. degree from University of Minnesota.



Krishna Bharat


Bharat is the principal scientist at Google and is the creator of Google news, one of the biggest endeavors by Google.


His creation, Google news was honoured with the Webby award (news category) in the year 2003   and he also won the World Technology Award for media and journalism in the same year.


Prior to joining Google in the year 1999, Bharat was part of DEC Systems Research Center, where he developed the Hilltop algorithm. He completed his engineering from IIT Madras and received PhD in human computer interaction form Georgia Tech.





Biswanath Panda


Biswanath is the person behind Panda update, which helps in creating highly qualitative search results, by deleting entries which are of poor quality. The employees of Google started calling this update 'Panda Update', giving the credit to Biswanath. He currently directs a group of engineers who works for improving the user experience on search ads.


Biswanath received his B-Tech from IIT Kharagpur and MS and PhD in computer science from Cornell University.





Benedict Gomes


Gomes, an owner of 66 patents looks after the crawling improvement of Google Search Engine and is also behind designing a system for the ‘distributed crawling of hyperlinked documents’."The automatic suggestions and few lines of text and links that Google provides when a person enters any query, is the brain child of Gomes.













Guha Ramanathan


Ramanathan, a computer scientist has been a part of Google for the last seven years and is currently in charge of the custom search team of Google. He has 48 patents in his name which are related to search engine technology and moreover he has also introduced a technology enabling the refining of search results, which has in turn improved the quality of search results.











Shumeet Baluja


Baluja is a senior staff research scientist at Google where he focuses on diverse areas such as image processing, machine learning, wireless application development and user interaction measurement. He owns 6 patents and has also published scientific papers on automated vehicle control, statistical machine learning, high-dimensional optimization etc.













Nikhyl Singhal


Nikhyl is the product manager of ‘Hangouts’, a special feature of Google Plus and he is currently dealing with Google Plus project. Nikhyl who graduated from Stanford University is also the product manager of other real time products at Google.
